I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is a horror movie directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. It deals with a bunch of friends who are terrorized by a person who knows a dark secret from their past. Below is my I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) movie review

One of the big issues (besides being unnecessary) is the characters. Every single one of them sucks. We get some details about their background but they were not interesting. I did not care about any of them. Which also could have leaned into being memorable by being brutal. While this is not necessary, it also is one of the appeals of slashers such as this. However, the movie showed us one or two kills that were brutal and the rest were mild or offscreen. This defeats it being a rated “R” slasher.
These “teenagers” all seemed dull and uninterested in their situation. They talk like modern young people but look like they own mortgages and have few kids on the side. Also, while being dull, they are also very stupid. They obsess over the smallest things or are oblivious to things around them. For example, one of the characters mourns another by holding him while a killer clearly is heard approaching him? Does he react? No. Does he fight back when the killer holds his hair and pulls him back? No. This is a grown man, not a young frail guy and should be able to fight back. He does not. Even the smallest of people would scream and flail around, hoping their effort might help them.

When it comes to ending, this is where the movie fails miserably. The “twist” was an insult to the original movie. Let’s face it, the original was not a masterpiece. However, it was a fun slasher. The characters were goofy but likable. To take the twist in the direction they did in this movie was insulting for all the fans. The people that came back for this movie must be running out of money. It did not feel like they were needed. The whole movie felt unneeded. What exactly made it like the original? The premise is the only thing that connects it. Everything else can be found in a generic slasher movie.
The character suck, the dialogue is atrocious, the acting is subpar, the premise and execution is OK at best and the way characters acted knowing the killer was around is beyond stupid. Did they really act surprised when a sheriff who is known for covering crimes refused to help them? Yes. Yes, they did.
I don’t really expect much from slashers. A lot of them these days are bad but a lot of them also try to be different in some way. Whether that is setting, characters, violence, or even overall plot. Not this one. This one felt lazy and very forgerttable. I always watch movies without looking at my phone. I give them full attention because that is what I paid for. Out of all the movies I have paid for this year (it is a lot) this is one on top of that list that I regret buying.
